Apollodorus’s Library is a handbook of Greek mythology: genealogies, sequences of events, heroes, gods, and monsters are set out concisely, almost like a map. It is therefore not a collection of fully formed tales, but an excellent source for weaving narratives.
Apollodorus’s Library is a handbook of Greek mythology: genealogies, sequences of events, heroes, gods, and monsters are set out concisely, almost like a map. It is therefore not a collection of fully formed tales, but an excellent source for weaving narratives.
The current source is divided into 33 book chapters. A chapter in Pseudo-Apollodorus does not necessarily constitute a story: the Slovenian versions therefore make editorial choices to connect events, distinguish genealogies from action, and establish narrative beginnings and endings. These are adaptations of the Greek source, not merely literal translations of individual passages.
The preserved working document is labeled APOLLODORUS-FRAZER and is based on Frazer’s 1921 Greek edition, listed in the Perseus Catalog. The ancient text and the historical edition are in the public domain, but the exact URL of the originally downloaded file was not recorded at the time of the initial import. This is a gap in the documentation that we will address before any further retrieval.
