O viru
Vuk’s Serbian Folk Tales is a foundational collection of Serbian oral tradition: tales of wonder, humorous stories, tales of trickery and trials. They are recorded in the language through which Vuk Karadžić both documented oral storytelling and helped establish literary Serbian.
Kako smo pripravili besedila
We have imported all 49 numbered tales from the collected historical corpus. The cover and table of contents belong to the 1853 edition, while individual online transcriptions often cite the 1870 edition. We therefore present the collection as a transparently labelled historical corpus rather than a strictly diplomatic transcription of a single edition.
Vir, izdaja in pravice
The texts were sourced from Serbian Wikisource. Vuk Karadžić died in 1864, so the original work is in the public domain; the Wikisource transcription is published under CC BY-SA 4.0. In subsequent editorial work, we also retain the notice that the transcription draws on multiple editions.
