Prevod

A snake that made its den at a farmer’s doorstep killed his infant child. The parents were overcome with grief. In his anguish, the father took an axe and waited to kill the snake when it came out. As soon as it poked its head out a little, the farmer hurried to strike, but missed, hitting only the mouth of its hole. After the snake had gone away, the farmer, thinking it would no longer bear him a grudge, took some bread and salt and placed them in the hole. But the snake gave a faint hiss and said, “There can be neither trust nor friendship between us now, so long as I see the rock and you see your child’s grave.” The fable shows that no one forgets hatred or the desire for revenge while looking upon a reminder of what caused their grief.
