Prevod

A man carved a wooden statue of Hermes and put it up for sale. When no buyers came forward, he tried to attract a few by crying out that he was selling a benevolent god who would safeguard their profits. One of the bystanders said to him, “My good man, if he is all that, why are you selling him instead of enjoying the benefits he brings?” He replied, “Because I need a little help quickly, whereas he is in the habit of taking his time to bring in profits.”

This fable is aimed at a man who is greedy for ill-gotten gain and holds the gods in contempt.
