A man once made a pact of friendship with a Satyr, so the story goes. When winter came and the weather grew cold, the man blew on his hands. The Satyr asked why he did this, and he replied that he was warming his hands against the cold. Later, a meal was set before them, and the food was very hot. The man took a little at a time, raised it to his mouth, and blew on it. Again the Satyr asked why he did this, and he said he was cooling the food because it was too hot. Then the Satyr said to him, “Well, my fellow, I renounce your friendship, for you blow both hot and cold from the same mouth.” So we too should shun the friendship of those whose disposition is two-faced.
