In the eighth month under Emperor Yuan of Han, grass fell from the sky, its leaves twisted and knotted together into clumps as large as sling pellets. Later, in the first month under Emperor Ping, grass again fell from the sky, just as it had during the Yongguang era. Jing Fang’s Commentary on the Book of Changes says: “When a ruler is grudging with stipends, trust wanes and worthy men depart; the portent of this is grass falling from the sky.”
