King Wen appointed Taigong Wang magistrate of Guantan. After a year, not even the wind made the branches rustle. King Wen dreamed of a beautiful woman weeping in the middle of the road. He asked her why she wept. “I am the daughter of Mount Tai,” she said, “and I married into the Eastern Sea. I wish to return home, but the magistrate of Guantan governs virtuously along my route, and I cannot make the journey. Wherever I travel, fierce winds and driving rain must follow, and such a storm would mar the blessings of his virtue.” King Wen awoke, summoned Taigong, and questioned him about this. That very day, driving rain and violent winds did indeed pass by, skirting the borders of Taigong’s domain. King Wen then appointed Taigong Grand Marshal.
