Liu Rong, a native of Songyang in Linhai Commandery in the state of Wu, accompanied Zhang Ti, the chancellor of Wu, to Yangzhou. Rong fell ill and died aboard a boat. Two days passed; the soldiers had already gone ashore, and there was no one to bury him. Suddenly he cried out at the top of his voice, “They’re binding the army’s adviser! They’re binding the army’s adviser!” Then he came back to life. When people questioned him, Rong said, “I went up to Heaven and became a guard at the gate of the Northern Dipper. Seeing men binding Zhang Ti, I was so appalled that I could not help crying out, ‘Why are you binding the army’s adviser?’” The men at the gate were angered by Rong and shouted at him to leave. Terrified, he fled, and the cries that escaped his lips were merely the lingering echoes of his outburst. That very day, Zhang Ti died in battle. Rong was still alive in the reign of Emperor Yuan of Jin.
