In a certain place there lived a widow who owned a sheep. Wishing to take its fleece, she sheared it so clumsily that she clipped its flesh along with its wool. In pain, the sheep said, “Why are you hurting me? How much weight will my blood add to the fleece? If it is meat you want, mistress, there is a butcher who will slaughter me in a moment. But if it is wool and fleece, there is a shearer who will shear me and leave me unharmed.” Those who, out of greed, take on work in which they have no experience reap more harm than profit.
