Prevod

The owl, being wise, advised the birds, when the oak first began to grow, not to let it stand, but to destroy it by every means they could. For from it, she warned, would come birdlime, a substance they could not escape, which would be used to catch them. Again, when men were sowing flax, she urged the birds to pick up all the seed, for nothing good would come of its growing. A third time, seeing a man with a bow, she warned them, “This man will overtake you with your own feathers: though he walks on the ground, he sends winged arrows after you.” But the birds would not believe her words; they thought her foolish and said she was mad. Later, when experience proved her right, they marvelled at her and thought her truly the wisest of all. And so, whenever she appears, they flock to her as to one who knows everything. But she no longer offers them any advice; she only laments.
