In the days of Wu, Xu Boshi of Jiaxing fell ill and summoned the Daoist Lü Shi to set up a seat for the deity. Shi had two disciples, Dai Ben and Wang Si. All three lived in Haiyan, and Boshi invited the disciples to come and assist Shi. While sleeping during the day, Shi dreamed that he ascended to Heaven and, beneath the Gate of the Northern Dipper, saw three saddled horses waiting outside. A voice said, “Tomorrow, one is to fetch Shi, one to fetch Ben, and one to fetch Si.” When Shi awoke, he told Ben and Si, “If this is when we are to die, we must hurry home and bid our families farewell.” They left without completing the rites. Puzzled, Boshi tried to keep them from leaving. Shi said, “We fear we may not see our families again.” A day later, all three died at the same moment.
