Cui Wenzi was a native of Mount Tai. He studied the arts of immortality under Wang Ziqiao. Ziqiao transformed himself into a white rainbow and brought Wenzi an elixir. Startled by this strange sight, Wenzi raised his halberd and struck the rainbow, causing it to drop the elixir. When he bent down to look, he saw the body of Wang Ziqiao. He placed it in a room and covered it with a battered basket. Before long, it transformed into a great bird. When he lifted the basket to look, the bird spread its wings and flew away.
