Ge You, who lived in the early Zhou dynasty, was a Qiang man from Shu. In the reign of King Cheng of Zhou, he took pleasure in carving wooden sheep and selling them. One day, he mounted a wooden sheep and rode into Shu. Princes and nobles of Shu followed him up Mount Sui. This mountain, southwest of Mount Emei, abounded in peach trees and rose to an immeasurable height. Those who followed him never returned; all attained the Way of the Immortals. Hence the local saying: “Obtain a single peach from Mount Sui, and even if you do not become an immortal, you will still have ample cause for pride.” At the foot of the mountain, several dozen shrines were erected.
