Prevod

A woman who had two daughters gave them in marriage, one to a gardener and the other to a potter. One day she went to visit the gardener’s wife and, among other things, asked how she was faring. “Everything else is going well, Mother,” she said, “but pray for plentiful rain, so that our vegetables may grow as they should.” Leaving her, the mother went to visit the potter’s wife. She asked her the same question and received this reply: “Everything else is going well with us, Mother, but pray for clear skies and hotter, brighter sunshine, so that our pots may dry more quickly.” At this the mother said, “May the gods grant you clear skies, and your sister, the gardener’s wife, abundant rain.” The fable shows that those who have nothing of their own to give readily promise those who ask what belongs to others.
