A raven snatched a piece of meat and settled in a tree. A fox saw him and, wanting to get hold of the meat, stood beneath him and praised his fine size and beauty. She said that he, above all birds, deserved to be king, and would surely become so if only he had a voice. Eager to show her that he had a voice as well, the raven dropped the meat and gave a loud caw. The fox darted forward, snatched up the meat, and said, “O raven, you have everything—only get yourself some sense.” This fable is well suited to a foolish man.
