A deer fleeing from hunters came to a cave where a lion lived and went inside to hide. Seized by the lion and about to be killed, she said, “Wretched creature that I am! In fleeing from men, I have delivered myself into the jaws of a wild beast.” So it is that some people, for fear of lesser dangers, plunge themselves into greater evils.
