Dolgoživi Peng Zu

Pengzu was a high official in the Yin dynasty. His surname was Qian, and his given name Keng. He was a grandson of Emperor Zhuanxu and a middle son of Luzhong. He lived through the Xia dynasty into the closing years of the Shang and was said to be seven hundred years old. He regularly ate cassia and lingzhi mushrooms. In Liyang there is a chamber sacred to Pengzu the immortal. People of earlier times said that prayers to him for wind and rain never went unanswered. Two tigers were always to be found on either side of his shrine. Even today, when offerings to him have been completed, the tracks of two tigers appear on the ground.
