I want to tell you something. I saw two roast chickens flying; they flew swiftly, with their bellies turned toward heaven and their backs toward hell, and an anvil and a millstone floated across the Rhine, ever so slowly and quietly, and a frog sat on the ice at Whitsun, gobbling up a plowshare. There were three fellows who wanted to catch a hare; they went on crutches and stilts, one was deaf, the second blind, the third dumb, and the fourth could not move a foot. Would you like to know how it happened? The blind man was the first to see the hare trotting across the field, the dumb man called out to the lame man, and the lame man caught it by the collar. Some people wanted to sail overland, so they spread their sails in the wind and sailed across great fields; then they sailed over a high mountain, where they had to drown most miserably. A crayfish put a hare to flight, and high up on the roof lay a cow that had climbed up there. In that country the flies are as big as the goats are here. Open the window and let the lies fly out.
