During the reign of Emperor Wu of Han, Jia Yong of Cangwu served as governor of Yuzhang. He possessed supernatural powers. Once, while leading an expedition beyond his jurisdiction to suppress bandits, he was killed and beheaded. Yet he mounted his horse and returned to camp, where everyone came running to see him. A voice spoke from his chest: “The battle went badly, and I was wounded by the bandits. Tell me, gentlemen, is it better to have a head or to have none?” His officials wept and said, “It is better to have a head.” Jia Yong replied, “Not so. Having no head is good as well.” With these words, he died.
