O zbirki svahilijskih pripovedi
Swahili Tales is a historical collection of stories from Zanzibar, edited by Edward Steere. The storytellers and the Swahili text are an important part of the source; Steere’s role in English is that of a mediator within a colonial context, so authorship is not attributed to him alone.
Kako smo pripravili besedila
We imported 17 titled prose narratives from the Swahili pages only. We did not count the parallel English translations, proverbs, riddles, the text Tobacco, or poems as folktales. The OCR text of the same edition still needs to be checked against the facsimile before final editorial publication.
Vir, izdaja in pravice
The source is a facsimile and transcription of the 1870 edition on Wikisource. Steere died in 1882, and the historical edition is in the public domain. Waltey retains only the original-language pages and a notice about OCR and the role of the Zanzibari storytellers.
