During the Wei dynasty, a swallow hatched an enormous chick at the home of Li Gai in Weiguo. Its body resembled a hawk’s, but its beak was like a swallow’s. Gaotang Long said, “This is a grave portent for the house of Wei. It must guard against a minister who will rise like a hawk from within its own walls.” Later, Emperor Xuan rose to power, put Cao Shuang to death, and gained control of the house of Wei.
