As one of his household was being carried out for burial, a physician said to those accompanying the funeral procession, “If this man had abstained from wine and used enemas, he would not have died.” Someone who met him replied, “My good man, you should not be saying this now, when it is of no use. You should have given him that advice when he could still have followed it.” The fable shows that we should help our friends when they need us, rather than mock them once all hope is lost.
