During the Yuankang era, sons of the nobility would gather to drink with their hair loose and their bodies naked, openly fondling their maidservants and concubines. Those who resisted spoiled friendships; those who condemned the practice were mocked. Men eager to keep up with the times were ashamed not to join in. These were the first stirrings of the Hu and Di invasion of the Central Plains. In time, the rebellions of the two Hu followed.
