Zhu Zhongwu had a daughter, Xianyi, who married Mi Yuanzong and died in childbirth at home. According to popular custom, the face of a woman who died in childbirth was marked with dots of ink. Her mother could not bear to do it, so Zhongwu secretly marked her face himself, with no one watching. While serving as assistant magistrate of Shixin County, Yuanzong dreamed that his wife came to him and climbed onto his bed. He saw her distinctly, her face pale and fresh, with black dots upon it.
