A monkey sitting in a tall tree saw some fishermen casting a net into a river and watched what they were doing. When they had hauled in the net and gone a little way off to eat their midday meal, the monkey climbed down from the tree and tried to do the same himself, for monkeys are said to be imitative creatures. But when he took hold of the net and became entangled in it, he said to himself, “I have only got what I deserve. Why did I try to fish when I had never learned how?” The fable shows that undertaking tasks that are none of our business is not only unprofitable but harmful as well.
