Prevod

It was customary for voyagers to take little Maltese dogs and monkeys with them to while away the voyage, and one man set sail with a monkey for company. When they were off Sunium, the headland of Attica, a violent storm arose. The ship capsized, and as everyone swam for safety, the monkey too was swimming. A dolphin saw him and, supposing him to be a man, swam beneath him and bore him up, carrying him toward the shore. When they came abreast of Piraeus, the port of Athens, the dolphin asked the monkey whether he was an Athenian by birth. The monkey said he was, adding that his parents were distinguished people there. The dolphin then asked whether he knew Piraeus as well. Supposing that he meant a person, the monkey replied, “Indeed I do! He is a very dear friend and close acquaintance of mine.” Outraged at so great a lie, the dolphin plunged him underwater and drowned him.

The fable applies to those who, knowing nothing of the truth, imagine they can deceive others.
