Chen Feng of Chang’an said, “Yang changing into yin foretells the dynasty’s demise; the birth of a child symbolizes the continuation of the succession.” Another interpretation held: “That the woman married and bore a son means that the dynasty will continue for one more generation before coming to an end.” Thus, after Emperor Ai died and Emperor Ping passed away, Wang Mang usurped the throne.
