Menih, ki je skrivaj jedel ribice

This, too, happened long ago. A monk went to visit someone, and as his host was offering him sake and other refreshments, the first icefish of the season were brought in. Delighted with the rare treat, the host set them before his guest. Presently, the host had something to attend to and went into an inner room. When he returned, there were far fewer icefish than before. He wondered what had happened, but could hardly say anything, so he sat chatting with the monk. Just then, a single icefish slipped out of the monk’s nose. Astonished, the host asked, “How is it that an icefish has come out of your nose?” Without missing a beat, the monk replied, “They say the icefish these days rain down from eyes and noses!” At this, everyone burst out laughing.
