Medved, svinja in lisica
A bear, a sow, and a fox joined forces and agreed to plough the land and sow wheat so that they would have something to eat. They asked one another what each would do and how they would find the seed. The sow said, “I shall break into a grain bin and steal the seed, and I shall plough with my snout.” The bear said, “I shall sow.” And the fox said, “I shall harrow with my tail.” They ploughed and sowed. Harvest time came. They began to discuss how they would reap the wheat. The sow said, “I shall reap.” The bear said, “I shall bind the sheaves.” The fox said, “I shall gather the fallen ears.” They reaped the wheat and bound the sheaves. Then they began to discuss how they would thresh it. The sow said, “I shall make the threshing floor.” The bear said, “I shall bring in the sheaves, and I shall thresh them too.” The sow said, “I shall turn the straw and separate it from the wheat.” The fox said, “I shall brush the chaff from the wheat with my tail.” The sow said, “I shall winnow it,” and the bear said, “I shall divide the grain.” They threshed the wheat. The bear divided the grain, but he did not divide it fairly: at the sow’s request, he gave her only the straw, took all the wheat for himself, and gave the fox nothing. The fox grew angry and went off to lodge a complaint, telling them that she would bring an imperial official to divide the grain fairly. The sow and the bear took fright, and the bear said to the sow, “Bury yourself in the straw, Sow, and I shall climb this pear tree.” The sow buried herself in the straw, and the bear climbed the pear tree. The fox went off and found a cat, whom she invited to come along to the threshing floor to catch mice. Knowing that there were plenty of mice on a threshing floor, the cat gladly went with her, running now to one side of the road, now to the other, chasing birds. The bear spotted her from afar up in the pear tree and said to the sow, “We’re in trouble, Sow! Here comes the fox, bringing a fearsome imperial bailiff. He’s wrapped in a marten-fur coat, and he even catches winged birds along the road!” Just then the cat slipped out of the bear’s sight, came through the grass to the threshing floor, and began rustling in the straw in search of mice. The sow raised her head to see what it was, and the cat, mistaking her snout for a mouse, sprang at her and caught her by the nose with her claws. The sow took fright, let out a squeal, leapt up, and bolted into the stream. The cat, frightened by the sow, darted up the pear tree. The bear thought she had already killed the sow and was now coming for him, and in his terror he fell from the pear tree to the ground, broke his bones, and died. And all the grain and straw were left to the fox.

Naslednje strani prikazujejo izvirno besedilo za primerjavo.
