On the last day of the sixth month in the first year of the Baoding era under Sun Hao of Wu, the mother of Xuan Qian of Danyang was eighty years old. She too transformed into a giant softshell turtle while bathing, just as Mistress Huang had done. Qian and his three brothers shut the doors and kept watch over her. They dug a large pit in the hall and poured water into it, and the turtle went in and swam about at play. For a day or two, she kept stretching out her neck to peer outside. Watching for a moment when the door stood slightly ajar, she rolled herself out and plunged into a deep pool. She never returned.
