During the Jin dynasty, Yang Daohe of Fufeng was working in the fields one summer when he was caught in the rain and took shelter beneath a mulberry tree. A thunderbolt struck down at him, but Daohe parried it with his hoe and broke its leg. It fell to the ground and could not get away. Its lips were vermilion, its eyes like mirrors, and its hair and horns three inches long. The rest of its body resembled a domestic beast, while its head was like a macaque’s.
