Aesop the storyteller once went into a shipyard in his leisure hours. When the shipwrights mocked him and challenged him to answer them, Aesop said, “In the beginning there were only chaos and water. Zeus, wishing to bring the earth into view as well, urged her to swallow the sea in three draughts. So she began: with the first draught she revealed the mountains, and with the second she laid the plains bare as well. But if she decides to drink up the water a third time, your craft will be of no use to you.” The fable shows that those who mock their betters unwittingly bring greater troubles upon themselves at their hands.
