Dolphins and whales were fighting one another. As their quarrel dragged on and grew fiercer, a shrimp rose to the surface and tried to reconcile them. But one of the dolphins spoke up and said to her, “We would rather be destroyed by one another than have you as our peacemaker.” So it is with some people who, though worth nothing, imagine themselves important when they meddle in a quarrel.

Δελφῖνες καὶ φάλαιναι πρὸς ἀλλήλους ἐμάχοντο. Ἐπὶ πολύ δὲ τῆς στάσεως αὐτῶν σφοδρυνομένης, καρὶς ἀναδῦσα ἐπειρᾶτο αὐτοὺς διαλύειν. Κἷς δέ τις τῶν δελφίνων ὑποτυχὼν ἔφη πρὸς αὐτήν· ,,ἀλλʼ ἡμῖν αἱρετώτερόν ἐστιν ὑπʼ ἀλλήλων διαφθαρῆναι ἢσοῦ διαλλακτοῦ τυχεῖν.“
Οὕτως ἔνιοι τῶν ἀνθρώπων, οὐδενὸς ἄξιοι ὄντες, ἂν ταραχῆς λάβωνται, δοκοῦσί τινες εἶναι.
