Čudežne preizkušnje nedolžnosti

Fan Xun, king of Funan, kept tigers on a mountain. Those accused of crimes were thrown to the tigers; if the beasts did not bite them, they were pardoned. Thus the mountain was called Great Tiger, and also Great Spirit. He also kept ten crocodiles. Those accused of crimes were thrown to the crocodiles; if the creatures did not bite them, they were pardoned. The innocent were never bitten. Hence there was a place called Crocodile Pool. He would also have water brought to a boil and a gold ring thrown into it, then make the accused reach into the boiling water: the hands of the innocent were unharmed, while those of the guilty were scalded the moment they touched the water.
