Ju Daolong was skilled in the arts of illusion. He once said, “Huang Gong, a man of Donghai, was an accomplished magician who could command snakes and tame tigers. He always wore a copper blade at his side. In his declining years, however, he drank to excess. Toward the end of the Qin dynasty, a white tiger appeared in Donghai, and an imperial decree sent Huang Gong to subdue it with his copper blade. But his magic failed, and the tiger killed him.”
