When Zhang Hao of Changshan was governor of Liangzhou, a bird resembling a mountain magpie flew into the marketplace just after a rain and suddenly fell to the ground. As people scrambled to seize it, it turned into a round stone. Zhang Hao broke it open with a hammer and found a gold seal inside, inscribed: “Seal of the Marquis of Loyalty and Filial Piety.” He reported the matter to the throne, and the seal was stored in the imperial privy treasury. Later, Fan Hengyi of Runan, a court counselor, submitted a memorial: “This office existed in the days of Yao and Shun. Now that Heaven has sent down its seal, it would be fitting to restore it.” Zhang Hao later rose to become Grand Commandant.
