Zhao Bing once came to a river and sought passage across, but the boatman refused him. Bing then unfurled a curtained canopy, seated himself within it, and summoned the wind with a long whistle, crossing against the current. The people revered him, and followers flocked to him as though returning home. The magistrate of Chang’an, angered that he was beguiling the people, had him arrested and put to death. The people built a shrine to him at Yongkang, where, to this day, neither mosquitoes nor gnats can enter.
