A wolf, bitten by dogs and badly wounded, lay helpless on the ground. Unable to find food, he saw a sheep and begged it to bring him a drink from the river flowing nearby. “If you give me a drink,” he said, “I shall find my own food.” But the sheep replied, “If I bring you a drink, you will make a meal of me as well.” The fable applies to a wicked man who conceals his treachery behind a pretense.
