A large, powerful wolf was born among the wolves, and they called him a lion. Foolishly, he let this reputation go to his head, deserted his own kind, and took to keeping company with lions. A fox mocked him, saying, “May I never become as puffed up with pride as you are now! You do indeed look like a lion among wolves, but beside lions you turn out to be a wolf.” This fable is for those who grow conceited when flatterers praise them beyond their merits, but come to know themselves when put to the test.
