In the third month of the fifth year of Yuankang, a great serpent some ten zhang long appeared in Linzi. Bearing two smaller snakes on its back, it entered through the city’s north gate, passed straight through the marketplace, and went into the shrine of King Jing in Hanyang City, where it vanished.
