During the Jin dynasty, a scholar surnamed Wang, whose home was in Wu Commandery, reached Qu’e on his journey home. As dusk fell, he drew his boat up beside a great weir. There he saw a girl of seventeen or eighteen standing on the weir, called her over, and kept her with him for the night. At dawn, he took off a gold bell and tied it to her arm, then sent someone to follow her home. Yet there was no woman anywhere in the house. On approaching the pigpen, the messenger saw the gold bell tied to a sow’s foreleg.
