In the intercalary second month of the third year of the Yuankang era of the Jin dynasty, all six bells before the palace hall shed tears, stopping only after five divisions of the water clock. The year before, Empress Jia had killed Empress Dowager Yang in Jinyong Fortress. Yet Empress Jia remained unrepentant in her wickedness, and so the bells shed tears, as though still mourning Empress Dowager Yang.
