A crab came up out of the sea and was feeding on a patch of ground. A hungry fox caught sight of him, came over, and seized him. As he was about to be devoured, the crab said, “I have only got what I deserve: though I belong to the sea, I chose to live on land.” The fable shows that people who abandon their own occupations and attempt things for which they are wholly unsuited naturally come to grief.
