Lisičje svarilo
Xiahou Zao, a man of Qiao, had a mother who was gravely ill. He was about to go to Zhi for a divination when a fox suddenly appeared in his doorway and howled at him. Terrified, Zao hurried to Zhi. Zhi said, “Disaster is close at hand. Hurry home, stand where the fox howled, and beat your breast and weep. Startle your household so that everyone, young and old, comes outside. If even one person remains indoors, do not stop weeping. Only then may you narrowly escape this calamity.” Zao returned and did as he had been told. Even his mother, ill as she was, was helped outside. Once the whole household had gathered, the five-bay main hall came crashing down.
