When a camel was first seen, people were frightened and fled, awestruck by its size. But as time passed and they came to see its gentle nature, they grew bold enough to approach it. Gradually realizing that the creature had no temper at all, they came to hold it in such contempt that they even put a bridle on it and let children drive it.

The fable shows that familiarity greatly softens the fearsome aspect of things.
