Qin Gao was a native of Zhao, skilled at playing the qin. He served as a retainer to King Kang of Song. Practicing the arts of Juanzi and Pengzu, he wandered through Jizhou and Zhuo Commandery for more than two hundred years. Later, he took his leave to enter the waters of the Zhuo River and fetch a young dragon, arranging a time to meet his disciples again. “Tomorrow,” he told them, “purify yourselves and fast, and wait for me.” They built a shrine beside the water. Sure enough, he emerged riding a red carp and came to sit in the shrine. Nearly ten thousand people gathered to watch him. He stayed for a month, then returned to the water and departed.
