Bao Yuan of Shangdang had suffered many deaths and illnesses in his household and lived in poverty. Chunyu Zhi performed a divination for him and said, “Your house stands on an ill-favored site, and that is why you are in such distress. There is a large mulberry tree northeast of your house. Go straight to the market. A few dozen paces inside the gate, you will find a man selling new whips. Buy one from him, bring it home, and hang it on that tree. In three years, you will suddenly come into wealth.” Bao Yuan followed his instructions and went to the market, where he did indeed find a horsewhip to buy and hang on the tree. Three years later, while deepening his well, he found several hundred thousand coins, along with more than twenty thousand bronze and iron objects. From then on, his fortunes prospered, and the sick members of his household recovered.
