Su Yi, a woman of Luling, was a skilled midwife. One night, a tiger suddenly seized her and carried her six or seven li to a great hollow, where it set her on the ground and crouched beside her, keeping watch. There she saw a tigress struggling to give birth, unable to deliver her cubs. The creature lay close to death, repeatedly raising her eyes to Yi. Wondering at this, Yi reached in and drew out three cubs. Once the birth was over, the tigress carried Yi home on her back, and afterward left wild game inside her doorway on several occasions.
