A man entered an apiary while its owner was away and stole the honeycomb. When the owner returned and saw the hives empty, he stood there examining them. The bees came back from foraging, found him there, and stung him mercilessly. He said to them, “You wretched creatures! You let the man who stole your honeycombs go unharmed, yet you sting me, who takes care of you?” The fable shows how some people, through ignorance, fail to guard against their enemies and drive away their friends as though they were plotting against them.
