A hare was mocking a tortoise’s feet and her slowness. “Yet I shall beat you in a race, swift-footed as you are,” she said. “That is only a boast, Tortoise,” he replied. “But race me, and you will see. Who will mark out the course and judge the winner?” The fox, who was fair and very wise, laid out a straight course for the race. The tortoise, mindful of her sluggish pace, set off without delay. But the hare, confident in his swift feet, lay down to sleep. When he reached the appointed finish, he found that the slow tortoise had won.

So it is that many who are naturally slow, by wasting no time, overcome those who are naturally swift but idle.
